Uruguay decretó la obligatoriedad de cobertura médica o seguro médico, para todos aquellos extranjeros que quieran ingresar al país por medio aéreo, marítimo o terrestre, según un documento aprobado por el Consejo de ministros y firmado por el presidente de la República, Luis Lacalle Pou. Además, se derogaron las exigencias sanitarias impuestas durante la pandemia de Covid-19.

Previo a esta resolución, puesta en circulación casi una semana después de su firma, aquellos extranjeros que entraban al país, y que no tenían cobertura médica eran atendidos a través de la Administración de los Servicios de Salud del Estado (ASSE), en caso de que presentaran algún problema de salud, generando un costo para el Estado.

El pasado mes de septiembre, el gobierno había levantado la exigencia de una declaración jurada de Covid-19 para el ingreso al país. Además, las personas debían informar sobre la cobertura de seguro de salud y acreditar un resultado negativo de coronavirus en caso de no contar con la cantidad de vacunas necesarias (dos).
